A note from Gabriel, Arianna, and Daniel: On Saturday, February 22nd, at 7:30PM an orchestra of nearly 100 students will take the stage in Neidorff-Karpati Hall at the Manhattan School of Music to present Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 6, under the baton of 21 year old conductor Gabriel Levy. The ensemble brings together musicians from all around New York City, including former Principal Timpanist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Duncan Patton. The student team behind this project includes Daniel Jansen (Horn, Project Manager), Arianna Behrendt (Violin, Project Coordinator), and Gabriel Levy (Music Director). In addition to being one of the largest student-run concerts in MSM’s history, this will be the School’s first performance of the piece since 1998.

The concert will open with ‘Mourn Not for Adonais’, a prologue to Mahler 6 for Mezzo-soprano and Harp commissioned for this concert from Argentinian Composer Marco Catella, and performed by Morena Galan and Shirley Guo.
